Quality Assurance Process
Linguistic Proof - Round 1
Text Review
- Complete draft translation.
- Did glossary come with the job and was it applied?
- Proof for omissions.
- Check for misspellings. If found, complete global search for same
misspellings.
- Proof for correct grammatical usage.
- Make sure text has been bolded, italicized and indicated with strike
through where needed.
- Verify consistent usage of monetary units per source document.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Linguistic Proof - Round 2
Copy editing
- Does translation make sense without reading the source language document?
- Has glossary been applied?
- Does title, paragraph, and question text match for each occurrence?
- Rename file to indicate edited text.
- Complete feedback report for the Project Manager and original translator.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Mechanical Proof - Round 1
Mechanics
- Layout - does it match the source language document?
- Have correct fonts been used?
- Are footers consistent with the source language document?
- Are headers consistent with the source language document?
- Are proper names spelled correctly?
- Pagination - is it the same as the source language? Text must flow
per the source language so that a pagination assembly guide can be utilized
in original form. Work with text growth due to language.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Mechanical Proof - Round 2
Final Review
- Have all source language updates been incorporated?
- Spot check language edits against hard copy.
- Are proper names spelled correctly? Spot check as needed.
- Has correct pagination system been applied?
- Check laser proofs on light table for margins, graphics, position.
- Verify output and return to Project Manager.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Additional Quality Control after Client Review
(Note: Upon client review, changes are made that affect
a new round of proofing)
Linguistic Proof - Round 3
Implement Client Edits
- Implement language edits and check off on hard copy with initials.
- Update glossary based upon client edits where appropriate.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Mechanical Proof - Round 3
Implement Client Edits
- Incorporate layout edits and check off on hard copy with initials.
If edits are not possible due to language restrictions, identify to
Project Manager.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
QC Manager Review - Round 1
Draft Proof
- Spot check pages against hard copy edits from language and DTP edits.
- Spot check target language pages against source language layout.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
Final QC Manager Review - Round 2
Final Proof
- Spot check edits on final printout against edited hard copy from client.
- Ensure all appropriate edits have been made and initialed.
- The individual assigned this task must initial a job checklist to
indicate they have completed their job responsibilities.
- Sign document to indicate approval as final.
Deliverable Final QC
RC/film is run by pre-press. QC checks for the following:
- Is approved laser copy provided?
- Correct number of pages printed.
- Are crop marks present (if requested)?
- Spot film if needed.
- Check specifications - RR, Emulsion side down, film negative, etc.
- Correct number of pages per color separation requirements.

- Artwork/final e-file is ready to ship to client.
